In this talk I'll discuss science cases for AO instrumentation Two specific cases will be presented: 1) the scientific case for linking AO modules to high spectral resolution spectrographs aiming at characterization of exoplanets 2) the need of AO instruments with high operational efficiency for the follow-up of space missions for transiting planets as PLATO.
